THE TREES WE KNOW

That rowan that always stood in the yard. The tallest spruce in the region. The maples offering shelter in the park. When their time comes to an end, could their story still go on?

We use local wood sourced from yards, parks, and storm-fallen trees. The conifers we use are thinning trees.

THE SAWYER AND THE CARPENTER

When a tree arrives at the sawmill in Kuohu, it’s time to reveal what lies hidden within. Each tree is unique, and different species lend themselves to different purposes. There is a skill in seeing possibilities even where life has left its marks.

Thus begins a wait of years, as the sun slowly dries the timber, until the carpenter takes over to continue the magic.

THE ARTIST

When gazing at sawn wood, one may begin to see images, landscapes, backdrops for creation. Nature offers its subjects: raw, real, and beautiful. An endless source of inspiration.

When material and subject become one, a world of its own emerges within the artwork, awakening moments in the viewer, stirring memories long tucked away.

Hanna Rautasaari, 37, is a craftsperson and the artist behind Tyvin. She is responsible for the artistic work at Tyvi
Combining strong carpentry skills with creative thinking results in visually stunning and technically functional solutions.

TYVI

Tyvi is the shared life’s work of master carpenter Mika Rautasaari and artisan Hanna Rautasaari. A vision in which local trees continue their journey as high-quality joinery pieces and inventive wood art.

Tyvi is a voyage, a winding path that experiments with diverse techniques, honors time-tested traditions, and harnesses the possibilities of modern technology.

The Tyvi workshop is based in Tikkakoski,
with the studio at Tikkutehdas in Vaajakoski.
